According to a study, more than two-thirds of prospective home buyers who use a mobile device in their search contact a real estate professional as a result of their mobile search.

Research shows that home buyers are turning to smartphones and tablets in their search and taking action to contact real estate professionals.

Numbers point to a solid winter rebound in the housing market

Government figures for the previous two months were revised and the numbers are much higher than previously figured.  This points to a solid winter rebound in the housing market.

Helped by low prices, record low mortgage rates and an increase in hiring that has lowered the unemployment rate, the battered housing market has been showing signs of recovery so far this year.

It is now cheaper to buy a home than rent in much of the country.

Best year for local housing market since before recession

This year is turning out to be the best for the local housing market since before the recession.  Home sales are up all over Dallas and home purchases are up more than 25% higher than last year.

A pickup in job growth, low interest rates and relatively affordable home prices have buyers becoming more confident about the economic environment.

Even though there is a widespread gain in the number of home sales, prices are rebounding much more slowly.  The sellers are finally taking low prices for their property after sitting for two years.

New $400M Dallas redevelopment project

Dallas-based Matthews Southwest and Toronto-based Tricon Capital Group Inc. have acquired and plans to develop a 60 acre mixed-use development a half mile south of the Dallas Convention center.

The project is estimated to cost $400 million and will include residential, commercial and retail uses.  The project will focus on transit-oriented and urban environments that will play into the multibillion dollar Trinity River Corridor Project.

SMU starts its Living Village project

Students at Southern Methodist University (SMU) are beginning their second annual Living Village project.  The project focuses on engineering temporary shelters designed for refugees or rapidly expanding populations.

The project is an interactive display and teaching tool for the school's Engineering and Humanity Week, which starts today.

This year, the shelters are designed for longer-term habitation and SMU students will live, cook and sleep within them.  The students will live without luxurious amenities such as running water or electricity.

It's only Friday the 13th

If you are feeling more scared than usual today it might be because it's Friday the 13th buy why is this day so feared?

Some believe the superstition was derived from Friday the 13th being the date that King Phillip the IV of France ordered thousands of Knights Templar to be killed.  Others think the dates significance simply came from the fact that Fridays were considered unlucky, and the number 12 was also unlucky.

DFW Ranks in Top 10 for Energy Star Buildings in U.S.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) annual list of U.S. metropolitan areas with the most Energy Star certified buildings shows that the Dallas/Fort Worth area placed 8th in its national survey.

The DFW area has place in the top ten since the EPA first released its list of top 25 cities in 2008.

Tips for winning an apartment in a landlord's market

Apartment vacancy rates are expected to fall below 5% this year, crossing a benchmark into what is often considered a "landlord's market," said Brad Doremus, senior analyst for Reis, a commercial real-estate research company. Nationally, the apartment vacancy rate is expected to fall to 4.6%  by the end of the year.

A great start to the home selling season

The first quarter of 2012 has brought a surge in home sales!

Pre-owned home sales were up 16 percent in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same quarter last year.  Median home resale values were also up a solid 5 percent for the quarter with March alone boasting an 11 percent increase from a year ago.

 

This is great news for the housing market because March is the first real month of the selling season. Don't be surprised to see numbers as strong as these for the second quarter as well!

After being booted from the "X Factor" judges panel at the end of her first season and parting ways with her music executive boyfriend, Paula Abdul is looking to start this new phase in life with a clean slate.  Her first step is selling off her Sherman Oaks mansion for $1.9 million.
