Home sales up 20% from last year

During the last 30-day sales period ending July 5, approximately 211,000 homes were sold in 98 of the top 100 metropolitan areas, according to research firm DataQuick.

Sales overall rose 12% from the same period a year earlier and 10.6% from 2009 levels.

Home prices also went up with the median price hitting $193,000 on July 5, up 6% from a year ago and 4.3% from three years ago.

Oracle Billionaire buying Hawaii's Lanai island

According to the Pacific Business News, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has reportedly agreed to buy Hawaii's Lanai island.

Documents where found filed with the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission showing that Ellison has signed an agreement to buy 98 percent of the Hawaiian island of Lanai, including two resorts and two championship golf courses, from billionaire David Murdock.

As of March, the 67 year old, Oracle CEO ranked number 6 on Forbes magazine's list of the world's billionaires with a net worth of $36 billion.

Texas is Leading state for commercial real estate development

Texas ranked number one in the nation in the development and construction of office, retail and industrial space in 2011, according to a report issued by NAIOP Research Foundation.

After Texas, New York ranked second, West Virginia third, and California fourth.
