12 Straight Months of Increasing Home Values

National home values rose by 1.1% in October from September, the largest monthly gain in seven years, according to a recent report released by Zillow.

All of the 30 largest metro areas that were tracked posted gains in October from September except for Chicago.  This is the first time housing markets have recorded 12 straight monthly gains in the Zillow survey since the housing sector's long slide began in 2006.

The House of Blues Dallas is up for sale

The House of Blues Dallas has just been listed for $17.9 million. This is a reduced asking price from last year's listing of $18.5 million.

Located at 2200 N. Lamar St., the building is a two story, 61,876-square-foot building that is home to The House of Blues' restaurant, venue and night club.

The building was originally built in the 1920s and was the former White Swan Coffee processing plant.  It was expanded and renovated in 2006.

Changes at Love Field could bring redevelopment

Dallas Love Field, known for its easy access for Dallas travelers, now wants to capitalize on its location by carving out new space for commercial development along Lemmon Avenue.

The company wants to realign and make better decisions about where they allow aviation development.  Without sacrificing the general aviation activities in any way, a large chunk of developable property can be created along Lemmon Avenue.

The KPMG Centre sells at foreclosure auction

The KPMG Centre at 717 N. Harwood St. in downtown Dallas, was sold to its lenders at Tuesday's foreclosure auction for $42 million.

The 34-story, 828,000-square-foot, downtown skyscraper has $64 million in listed debt but only appraised for $44 million, according to data from Addison-based Foreclosure Listing Service Inc.  If the lenders didn't buy the property they could have lost $22 million.

Texas is Leading state for commercial real estate development

Texas ranked number one in the nation in the development and construction of office, retail and industrial space in 2011, according to a report issued by NAIOP Research Foundation.

After Texas, New York ranked second, West Virginia third, and California fourth.

Best Buy is closing 50 stores this year

Best Buy is beginning to rethink its big-box business model after realizing that it is no longer working.  

 

Their big-box store model dominated electronics retailing for much of the past two decades but the electronics chain said it would close 50 stores this year while testing new store formats.  Bests Buy will also be trim 400 corporate and support workers from their company as part of it's plan to cut $800 million in costs and restructure its ailing business.

Greystar Begins Construction on New Apartment Complex near White Rock Lake

On Monday, the Charleston, SC-based apartment operating and developing company, Greystar, announced that they have begun construction on a new project near White Rock Lake. The rental community is south of the lake, east of Grand Avenue, and sits on 13.5 acres on La Vista Dr. in Lakewood. The East Dallas apartment community will be the first new development in this area since the 90s and will be constructed with craftsman-style design.

Fort Worth- No. 7 On List of Top 10 U.S. Downtowns

The editors of Livability.com recognized the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Fort Worth and as a result, Cowtown was ranked number seven on a list of the top ten best downtown's in the United States. There is a great mix of shopping and dining, and downtown Ft. Worth is a constantly busy place regardless of the night of the week. Sundance Square spans 35 blocks and is a fashion hub in the heart of downtown.

Omni Stirs Up Fear Among Neighbors

The Omni hotel is scheduled to open on time on November 11 despite a small fire they experienced recently. The hotel, which is attached to the Dallas Convention center, has already booked rooms for various conventions and events through 2012. Its an eye catcher for sure, and definitely caught the attention of many visitors for last weekends Texas vs. OU game with lights of both mascots cascading across the boomerang-shaped buildings exterior.

The Price of Living in DFW Apartments Rises

DFW's average apartment rents are rising at the greatest rate since the 1990's, and since 2010, the price has risen 5% for projects built since the 90s. This growth in rent suggests that there are minimal vacancies in the complexes within DFW. Currently, average DFW apartments cost $802/month, while newer buildings in the metroplex average at around $1,063/month.
