Erin White Davis Does Housewarmings
Since there were an overwhelming number of new homes purchased with thanks to the government tax credit offered last Spring, you may have lots of friends moving into their new humble - or not so humble - abode. They'll be packing, unpacking, wrapping things with styrofoam, rearranging the living room furniture three times, hanging pictures using their iPhone leveler (let's hope that's an accurate app), and most likely planning a housewarming party. Since they'll have such a long to-do list, the thoughtfulness of a timely "Welcome Home!" gift will really be appreciated. While there are some lovely traditional gifts to send like a potted plant or a bottle of wine, here are a few of my favorite out-of-the box ideas that celebrate your friend's new purchase.

An personalized self-inking address stamp requires a few days to order, but will be used constantly as a reminder of your thoughtfulness. The one pictured above is available on Etsy here but versions of this can be found at most specialty stationary stores.

A welcoming doormat is certain to be warmly received, and can be really useful, especially as the owners are certain to have lots of traffic in and out of their new house. This one is from one of my favorite retailers, Frontgate, and you can see more here.

During the hustle and bustle of moving, running the dishwasher is the last thing that new homeowners want to do. With these personalized Styrofoam cups, that's no longer a worry. My personal favorites have the home's new address on it, but for a clever take, include a bottle of champagne and cups emblazoned with "Weekend Waterford." It's the perfect marriage of celebration and utility. Find them here.

On the heels of the last idea, consider that an easy, no-order-required gift could be gift cards to their new local restaurants. Since cooking at home may have to wait for the kitchen boxes to be completely unpacked, ordering in is a necessary evil for the first week of living in a new home. To make it thoughtful, include plastic-wear, paper plates, and napkins. And, if you're my husband's friend: a six-pack.

Since food is always such hit and, in the South, the major determinant between "good" and "bad" neighbors, why not take out the work of preparing something without losing the thoughtfulness of the gesture. It doesn't get cuter than this cookie bouquet, available here.
Whatever your gesture, housewarming gifts are such a thoughtful way to celebrate your friends, and ensure that you're always invited back over for the dinner parties.
If you know someone in the Dallas area who is looking to buy or sell their home, there is no greater compliment than a referral. I would love to help. Any other thoughts for great housewarming gifts? Email me at ErinWhiteDavis@gmail.com !
