The House That Built Me
So I was out showing homes the other day with a client of mine when this song comes on the radio. I'm not sure if you are a country music fan like myself, but the song was by Miranda Lambert. She just came out with a song called, The House That Built Me. When I was listening to the words of the song it made me think back to when I was a little girl growing up in my parents house. I can remember waking up to the aroma of coffee and pancakes rising up stairs to my bedroom. The Christmas I got my very own P.J. Sparkles doll!! Toasting champagne with my family and friends in our dining room the day I graduated high school. All the things I did as a kid and the experiences I had. You realize that the house you grew up in has made you who you are today. I can say by the end of the song I was in tears and so was my buyer!
Being a Realtor you always get asked the question, "What's your favorite part about being a real estate agent?" For some that might be a hard question to answer. For me it's an easy one. I love talking with past clients and hearing all the really neat things they have done to their home. Whether it was tearing up the master bathroom and making it bigger, painting their office pink and turning it into a nursery because they are expecting a baby or something funny their kid did the other day with the dog in the backyard. It's listening to stories like those that makes me feel like you were somehow responsible for making those memories.
I've always liked being the buyers agent. That's when you get see clients closing on their first home. The feeling I get is unbelievable. It's always nice to see how excited they are and all the things they want out of their new home and all the memories they can't wait to make in it. It's when you get to the selling part that it gets a little hard. Becuase now they have to leave all those memories behind. Especially if they have been living there for the past 10, 15, or 20 years. It can be a bittersweet moment. But, it's nice to know that you will be there again to help them find a new place to call home.
I just hope that other Realtors feel the same way I do. It is nice to know that after working with either a buyer or seller I feel that I am part of their family or that they have walked away with a friend. Maybe one day I can be the one helping you and your family create memories in your new place!
