If you’ve noticed a few extra cars on the road, and some longer lines at the supermarket, it’s not your imagination. In the last decade, the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex has added more residents than any other city in the United States. The metroplex has grown by about 1.3 million people between April 1, 2000 and July 1, 2009. The Dallas/Ft. Worth population is believed to be about 6.5 million, but the exact numbers are not available until the 2010 census is complete.
Many businesses are attracted to Dallas and make the move to the Dallas because it has no corporate income tax. The building costs are relatively low and regulations are minimal. The Dallas market is very attractive to businesses that are coming in from rather high tax states.
What the Dallas downtown has lacked in the past, it is making up for it now, and will continue to in the future. With the addition of the new arts center, urban park, and new housing, downtown is only becoming more attractive, fun, and an exciting place to be. I think it will be interesting to watch this great city continue to grow, strive, and compete with the major cities in the U.S. Yet again, another reason to be proud of this great place we live!
