Keeping Your Home Happy...

I have compiled some helpful home maintenance tips to keep your home happy and in shape all year round. It is recommended to perform these simple tasks twice a year to keep your home in tip top shape!

1.       The Roof-check the vents around the roof or chimney for any possible leaks and repair if necessary.

2.       The Attic-if your attic has no ridge vent, keep the gable vents open year round to ensure the attic is receiving proper ventiliation.

3.       Gutters-Clean your gutters and drain the pipes. You don’t want those pesky leaves clogging  the pipes and gutters. Also, make sure they are draining away from the house.

4.       The Fireplace-Clean out the ashes. During the Fall check the chimney for loose or missing morter. Have the chimney professionally cleaned.

5.       The Filters-Have the filters replaced once a month or as needed. Check and clean the dryer vent, air conditioner, stove hood and room fans. Remember to keep the heating and cooling vents clean and free from the drapes and furniture.

6.       Check all safety equipment-make sure all smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers are in good working order.

7.       Refrigerator-make sure the refrigerator door seals are airtight.

8.       Faucets-check for leaky faucets and replace if necessary

9.       Check all windows and doors-make sure they are sealed tightly. Any small cracks can let enough air out over time is like keeping the window or door open.

10.   Siding and paint-look for cracks in the siding or paint on the home. Replace if necessary.

11.   Heating system-have the heating system serviced before the winter months approach.

12.   Hot water heater-before the winter hits drain the hot water heater and remove any sediment at the bottom of the tank.
