As Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and a myriad of other online-entity sites started to gain credibility among more than high school and tween web-surfers, I was slow to join the onslaught of adults that populate these communities. I was leery of signing up for yet another social networking site that had constant status updates announcing my morning coffee choice and other such decisions that no one cares about knowing. Frankly, it seemed indulgent to believe that there was an audience for my most mundane of choices.
However, after reading Katherine Tarbox's article in the February issue of Realtor, I am starting to see practical and even innovative uses for these sites, not for just personal use, but in business. Perhaps there is a real opportunity for an authoritative voice to narrate the electronic frontier with practical, informative notes and reminders about industry-relevant tidbits. Combined with the speed of staying pertinent that is demanded by most individuals, social networking sites may be the only viable thoroughfare for information as it relates to each passing minute. So, I will be running an experiment over the next week and testing this premise. Specifically, I will be using Twitter. So follow me @erinEdavis as I make a business maneuver and Tweet my way through a week in the Dallas, Texas real estate market.
And, for the record, I had a Grande Vanilla Chai Latte this morning.
