happy 2010 cyber-world!!!!

well we are about a week into 2010, and i hope everyone had a safe and wonderful NYE! the holiday season is officially over, so now its time to get back to the daily grind... back to life, back to reality. whether we like it or not!

new years are always a time of reinvention, resolutions, reevaluations and revelations! so how many of y'all out there have already broke your new years resolution? if you have, don't worry you are in good company. statistics show that 45-50% of americans make 1 to 2 resolutions with the coming of each new year... and that 25% of those resolution-promising peeps have ditched those resolutions to the curb within the first week! and how many americans are still committed to their resolutions 6 months later? only 46% of us resolvers are still keepin' on with the keepin' by the time the summer has rolled around. but hey, we had good intentions on NYE right? when we promised thatthis year we would go to the gym, nurture our relationships, save up for the down payment, remember friends birthdays, eat healthier, work on our posture (which was one of my personal resolutions this year, as i sit here pounding away on my keyboard looking like the hunchback of notre dame... hey i never said i was flawless at this whole resolving thing), or whatever other thing we resolved to do better this year- and isn't your intentions that actually count?????

so many resolutions don't last, but does that mean abandon them all together? and perhaps go into the new year guns a blazin' with no promises to ourselves or anyone else about who we will be or what will will do in the upcoming year?!?!?! maybe we should underestimate our expectations of ourselves for the upcoming year so that when we exceed them we can really rejoice! i admit that sounds like a good plan, if we are looking to impress ourselves by being generally unimpressive... but who wants to underwhelm?

resolutions may not last, but they do serve a good purpose. first of all, statisitics say that those who make new years resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than those who do not. plus its important to take time out, even if it is just on nye, to look at ourselves and reevaluate what we want, where we are, who we are and where we are going. this self-reflection is a chance for us to figure out what WE can do on our own to make the upcoming year better than any of the previous ones before it! it is our opportunity to get a blank slate, a fresh start and make ourselves the best people we can be. and even if you have long lost and forgotten your resolutions a week, a month, or 6 months into the new year- at least you had the resolve to do things differently. and just because you didn't stick with your resolution every day, doesn't mean you can't resume it at any given time.

with this upcoming year i have made a lot of resolutions, or as i like to say revelations. and while i can guarantee i won't complete them all, or stick to them all everyday... i'm going to try- because i too want 2010 to be the best year yet- the start of a wonderful new decade! whoa, thats nuts to think we're 10 years into the 2000's. it seems like just yesterday we were freaking about over y2k!

so what can we do to keep ourselves on track? here is a tip i read that i am trying to follow:

write your resolutions down

... yes do it! write them down, in big, bold lettering. and then post them somewhere where you will see them everyday. read them over and over again. because all resolutions are really just goals in fancy NYE packaging... they are goals that that got decked out in the cocktail attiar for the NYE party! when if you write your goals down, visualize them and remind yourself of them daily, then you have a better chance of achieving them! and don't beat yourself up if you fall of the resolution wagon, just like new years, there is always a new day to get back on track!

well that's all my rambling on resolutions for today...

to any and all readers out there in the cyber land... best wishes for the new year!

til we meet again... yours truly,

libbie
