IntownSteve's Blog: Sandwich Searching
For some reason lately I feel like I'm always eating sandwichs for luch or dinner. I heard that a NBA player was in search for the perfect sandwich. So I went to check out San Antonio Spurs forward/food critic Matt Bonner's: The Sandwich Hunter, the quest for the Hoagie grail. For those of you not familiar with this Bonner is always looking for the best sandwich when he is traveling to different NBA cities. So living in Dallas I thought to myself the Spurs were in Dallas recently, I wonder where he ate when he was in town? Looking through the sandwich archive I found that the Red Rocket( this is Matt's nickname for you non spurs fans) went to Jimmy's food store. If you haven't been to Jimmy's you need to go check it. Its off the beaten path in the east Dallas area. As you enter this Italian market you may get inspired to buy the fresh ingredients so you can cook up a great meal at home(many local restaurants buy ingredients from Jimmy's). As you work your way through the store you will find the sandwich counter in the back. I recommend trying the Muffuletta however there are still many sandwich's on the menu I want to try here.
While Jimmy's makes a good sandwich I got to thinking where are some other good spots in town? Now there are always the chain places like Subway,Potbelly,Baker Brothers and Schlotzky's. There is nothing wrong with these places but I was thinking there has to be some good non chain places in this city. Some names that immediately come to mind are Wich,Wich, New York Sub's near SMU,Central Market, PD Johnson's, The Boardroom's Thanksgiving Turkey and Philly sandwich's, Avanti's steak sandwich on the late night menu,Eatzi's,Houston's, Sammy's BBQ sandwich in Uptown and the shrimp PO Boy @ S&D Oyster to name a few.
I know there have to be lots of other places that have great sandwichs that I missed. This is where you the readers come in. I would love to hear who you think has the best sandwich in Dallas. Please message me here or email me @ intownsteve@aol.com
